What are Lyophilized Medications?

Freeze-drying, also known as lyophilization, is a dehydration process typically used to preserve a certain perishable medications and provide the medication a longer shelf life. Freeze-drying works by freezing the material and then reducing the surrounding pressure to allow the frozen water in the material to sublimate directly from the solid phase to the gas phase.

Lyophilized hormones like HCG and Sermorelin will arrive in a bottle containing a small amount of white powder. Sometimes the powder is in the form of a disc or it can be loose “chunks” of powder at the bottom of the bottle. In addition to your medication you should also receive a separate bottle containing a diluent to mix into the bottle of lyophilized powder using a syringe. The diluent included with HCG and Sermorelin should be Bacteriostatic water or Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride which help preserve the medication and convert the powder into a fluid so that it can be injected. If you have received your medication without the proper diluent included please contact us and we will request the pharmacy to send you diluent.
